Summer GMC Vehicle Care
June 22, 2009 by jcme · Leave a Comment
The summer driving season can be hard on your GMC vehicle. If you want to prepare your GMC car or truck for the stress of high temps and increase its reliability on trips, here are some things to keep in mind:

First, make sure the tires on your GMC are inflated and that the treads are in good condition. This will prevent tire failure, and help increase your gas mileage.
You should also make sure to regularly check your hoses and. Look for cracked hoses and belts. If you see signs of wear, replace them.

Engine coolant is also especially important during the summer months. Make sure that the levels are high enough, and that the mixture of coolant and water is correct.
Your motor oil needs to be full and free of debris during the summer, as well. If you’re towing a heavy trailer or if your area gets especially hot, you should consider a higher viscosity oil.

Your GMC Wiper Blades
June 15, 2009 by jcme · 1 Comment
One of the most important features on your GMC vehicle is one you never think about unless it’s raining. Your wiper blades allow you to see out your window in order to navigate and get down the road safely. Keeping on top of your wiper blade maintenance is important, and knowing when to replace them will help prevent a situation where they just don’t work well at all and you can’t see out your window.
Around once every six months is about right when it comes to changing wiper blades. Some people like to change their wiper blades when they change the clock for daylight savings time. (Incidentally, this is a great time to change the batteries in your house’s smoke detectors, too.
There are specific signs of wear to watch for, as well. Wiper blades that need to be replace will often streak. In some cases, your blades may bounce. “Bouncing” occurs when the wiper bounces along the windshield instead of making a clean arc. Usually this results when the wiper blade develops additional curve which can happen if it’s spent too much time parked against the windshield.
If the rubber on your blades is worn, or if your wiper frame is bent or damaged, these are also good reasons to replace your wiper blades.
We know you don’t need a service department to replace your wiper blades. However, for all of your other maintenance needs, make sure to visit your Springfield area GMC dealer today. We’ll get you the service you need.

The GMC Yukon is, for many families, the ultimate in transportation. It features enough space for just about any family out there, and it can tow a camper or look great parked for a night out on the town.
Of course, all of that luxury, size and power comes at a price. The GMC Yukon is far from the most fuel efficient vehicle on the road. However, beginning with the 2008 model year and continuing in 2009, GMC has offered Yukon fans a way to save at the gas pump: with the GMC Yukon Hybrid.
There was a time, of course, when hybrid cars were small and aerodynamic. Eventually, you would find a mid sized sedan or maybe a compact SUV that featured a hybrid engine. Today, however, you can go green with one of the biggest vehicles on the road.
the GMC Yukon hybrid relies on a 6.0 liter gas V8 engine that is supported by two electric motors. The yukon can actually go up to 30 miles per hour on electric power only, giving a 21 mile per gallon fuel rating in city driving.
The GMC Yukon Hybrid is similar to a regular Yukon in all of the way sthat matter. It can seat 8 people and offers around 109 cubic feet of space for cargo. As always, this Yukon comes loaded. It can even tow up to 6,200 pounds.

Your GMC Vehicle’s Transmission
June 8, 2009 by jcme · Leave a Comment
When you’re having trouble with your GMC vehicle, the last thing you want to hear the service technician tell you is that you have a problem with your engine or with your transmission. Transmission repairs can be terribly expensive, especially if the damage is severe. However, if you’re familiar with some relatively basic troubleshooting techniques, you may be able to save yourself some of the repair costs.
One thing you should check if you think your transmission is slipping or isn’t working smooth is the transmission fluid. If your transmission fluid is low, it can cause shifting problems and can eventually cause damage to your transmission. Check the fluid reservoir, and check under your GMC vehicle to check to see if you’re leaking transmission fluid.
Another possibility is that your transmission filter is clogged. Most people can’t replace this on their own, but some folks with a high degree of mechanical knowledge may be able to do it at home. Problems with the filter can also cause performance problems.
If you are having transmission problems, contact your Springfield area GMC dealer today. We’ll get you the transmission service you need, and we’ll stand behind our work.

Fixing a Flat on your GMC
June 1, 2009 by Adam · Comments Off
If you’ve spent any time at all looking around an automotive store, or even the auto parts section at a department store, you’ve seen the emergency flat tire fixing cans. You may have been skeptical about its effectiveness. The fact of the matter is that, in many cases, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. You wonder if the cans work at all, and probably walk right on past.
Using the aerosol flat tire cans is relatively simple. Start off by pulling off the road to a safe spot. Take the cap off of your GMC vehicle’s tire stem. Put the cap somewhere you won’t lose it, as you’re going to need to put it back on later on. Screw the can’s hose onto the valve stem. When it stops filing up with air, unscrew the cap and put the valve stem cap back onto the valve stem. Drive the car right away so that the sealant can circulate.
Well, the truth is, these products do work. However, there are some things to keep in mind when it comes to these products:
These aerosol tire sealers can, in some instances, harm a Tire Pressure Management System. If your GMC vehicle has a Tire Pressure Management System, you might want to think twice before using these cans.
- These products hold up well in both heat and cold. Check the can for specific information, but you can generally store the product in your car.
- These products are not designed to be permanent solutions. They are designed to get you to a tire repair shop.
- When you do get to the repair shop, make sure that you tell the technician that you used the aerosol. This way, the technician knows that the tire is filled with gas and not with regular air.

Crossover GMC Offers Top Fuel Efficiency
June 1, 2009 by jcme · Leave a Comment
When you think about SUVs from GMC, the first thing that comes to mind probably isn’t fuel efficiency. While GMC trucks and cars are well built, reliable and stylish, they haven’t always been the best at the gas pump. However, the all new GMC Terrain for 2010 is changing all of that.
The new Terrain takes the rich GMC history of engineering excellence and applies it to a smaller, more fuel efficient package. This vehicle gets an amazing 32 miles per gallon on the highway, and yet has all of the capability you’ve come to expect from GMC.
The 2010 GMC Terrian comes with a 2.4 liter four cylinder engine with direct injection. The vehicle veatures a special “ECO” mode that can be activated using a button on the console. What this does is to lower the torque converter lockup speed, which in the end helps to save fuel.
And, of course, the vehicle has plenty of standard equipment. There is a rear-vision camera, power liftgate, Bluetooth connectivity, and much more including USB audio connectivity.
If you’re looking for a crossover SUV that won’t break the bank at the gas pump, consider the 2010 GMC Terrain. Your GMC dealer near Springfield can help you find just the right one for your needs.
